After staying home all day on Saturday, Sunday was going to be our trip to Buffalo for some shopping. We left the house at 8:40am to pick up mom and Karen and went on our way. Traffic was light, as expected, no snarls on the way down. Surprisingly, no one dared to speed either making Dickens feel out of place -- and we know how he loves to drive fast. Regardless of the speed, we got to the border a little over 1.5 hours which is still considered quick.
And being so early, the outlet mall was not even open yet. The parking lot was only 25% full so we had lots of nice spaces to choose to park the Sienna. The mall opened at 11am -- and we arrived there only 15 minutes before they opened. Our agenda -- lunch, then shop. We were disappointed that our regular hot dogs/burger place (Wimpy's) was not open. So, we went to the pizza counter which also had Mexican food (whoo-hoo). Karen already ordered pizza slices for the girls, mom and herself. Dickens and I had a steak caesar burrito. It had lots of veggies and thinly sliced steak meat. The fries were also yummy because they were thick slices. However, the burrito was so filling, most of the fries had to go to waste. Felt guilty as I never like to waste anything...but overeating is worse.
Next...shopping!! Not many bargains but we did get some good deals at our favourite shops like Children's Place, Carter's (but we did not buy anything in the end here) and Banana Republic. Karen found what she was looking for -- a pair of sandals and a pair of converse running shoes (she also bought a pair for Joyce). There went $60 out of our wallets. Not bad.
Our next stop was the new Walmart that opened up next door. And we were like children in a candy store! Mom included. We quickly filled up our cart with grocery and baby items. Milk, eggs, butter, yogurt, snacks and each a new pair of running shoes for the girls. Don't call the Shopaholic hotline just yet...we did our homework of remembering the prices of these items in Canada before we went on the spree. But as you know, even if some items are the same price, the tax is lower in the US.
